Lodz is regarded as an important road junction. Roads that run across Lodz are: 1 (E 75), 14, 72, 91, 710, 713. About 20 km to the north from the city centre, near Strykow, is the crossing of two motorways: A1 (north - south) and A2 (east - west). Motorways A1 and A2 are now under constructions and finally will connect Poland with the network of European motorways:

A - 1: from Gdansk via Torun, Lodz, Czestochowa, Katowice to border crossing in Gorzyczki (Czech Republic)
A - 2: from border crossing in Swiecko (Germany) via Poznan, Konin, Lodz, Warszawa, Siedlce to border crossing in Kukuryki (Belarus)

In the nearest future at the outskirts of Lodz expressways S-8 and S-14 will be built. When completed those roads will serve as the western bypass of the city.
