It is 30 metres long, 20 metres wide, and weighs 120 kilograms, and each star measures approx. 2 m - this is the shortest description of the longest EU flag made by young Lodzians. It now turns out to be a sensation not only in our city and Brussels, but also among representatives of many European institutions. This time, the flag will travel to Italy.
- The flag now represents the property of the President of the Committee of the Regions, Luc Van den Brande. It is my presumption that before the EU parliamentary elections it will be displayed in many cities, but always with the information that it was made in Lodz by our youth - said Mayor Jerzy Kropiwnicki.
In Italy, the flag will be stretched in the main square of Triest - Piazza Unità d'Italia at 18.30 hours in the presence of Franco Frattini, Italy's Foreign Affairs Minister, Luc Van den Brande, President of the Committee of the Regions, Antonio López-Istúriz White, EPP Secretary General at the European Parliament, Roberto Dipiazzo, Mayor of Triest, Jerzy Kropiwnicki, Mayor of Lodz, and Triest citizens.
The project originators are the students of the Academy of Humanities and Economics of Lodz, who on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union created it and had it sewn by students of the Special Foundation Vocational Schools Trust no. 2 of Lodz.
Between 15-16 May, Mayor Jerzy Kropiwnicki will participate in an extraordinary meeting of the CoR's EPP Group. (J.Cz.)
