On 9 May, Saturday, all the EU institutions (the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions, the European Economic and Social Committee) entered into the „Open Doors" event. In this way it was possible to freely visit the seats of the EU institutions, which is an impossibility on any other day. Thousands of visitors, adults and children alike, visited the most important European institutions. Accompanying events included tours, concerts, competitions, food tasting, and fun games.
Lodz entered into this event for another time running. At the Committee of the Regions, next to 54 other cities and regions (from Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Hungary, Italy) our city built a stand with available promotion and information materials on Lodz. The leading theme was Lodz's candidacy to the European Capital of Culture 2016.
The cities and regions at the seat of the Committee of the Regions were gathered in four thematic villages:
1. European Parliamentary Elections - "Your Choice".
2. Creativity and innovation - „What's Up In Your City/Region".
3. Anniversary village (20 years after the Berlin wall, 10 years after the EURO, and 5 years after the accession".
4. Local initiatives.
