Already on 5 October the Belgian city of Ieper, West Flanders, will become the most colourful and fabulous city in Europe, due to the International Puppet Theatre Festival co-organised by the Belgian Ministry of Culture, the City of Ieper, Opendoek, and Unima Belgium.
Ieper will be the destination of theatres from around Europe, e.g. Poland, Belgium, Slovenia. The 7-day festival will see approx. 20 performances and theatre workshops.
At the Festival, Poland will be represented by „Arlekin" Puppet Theatre of Lodz, whose shows will be played on 6, 7, and 9 October. „Arlekin" will present a humorous play originating from the commedia dell'arte titled „Arlekin w tarapatach" (Harlequin In Trouble). During the play, the actors wearing characteristic masks use improvised texts, which leads to many comic situations. The show is added colour by music, songs, pantomime, and clowning.
Additionally, at the Ieper Culture Centre the Festival guests will have an opportunity to admire exhibits and puppets from the Lodz-based theatre's collection, as well as obtain information on Lodz, its rich cultural events programme, tourist attractions, and our city's efforts to be the European Capital of Culture in 2016.
